WAYS TO GIVE
Federal and Local Giving Campaigns
State Employees Combined Campaign
Since 1991, the John Avery Boys & Girls Club has been registered with the United Way’s SECC, a charitable fund-raising effort conducted in the fall throughout all state government departments, usually in conjunction with the local Triangle United Way campaign. Employees of all State government departments can choose to designate their gift or a portion of it to the charity of their choice.
The John Avery Boys & Girls Club is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization under the regulations of the Internal Revenue Service. All contributions are tax-deductible to the extent provided by law.
Planned Giving
A planned gift is a gift that comes from sources other than current expendable income and is based on total assets. It is generally part of a total estate plan and may take effect during the donor’s life or after death.
The John Avery Boys & Girls Club depends on its loyal donors to continue to positively enhance the boys and girls in our care. In addition to funding our current programs in order to help these children, we have developed a planned giving program to benefit future generations of children in the John Avery Boys & Girls Club. Building a strong planned giving program is necessary to create new opportunities and to advance awareness through charitable giving programs. You can help ensure the future of our programs by making a planned gift to the Club. These types of gifts can provide the donor with substantial tax savings and deductions and, at the same time, make an everlasting impact on the future of the John Avery Boys & Girls Club. The planned giving information listed here highlights basic elements. Because every person’s financial and charitable objectives differ, a plan should be customized to meet your specific needs. Explore your planned giving options by working with a qualified attorney, certified financial planner, or other professional financial planner.
How to Make a Planned Gift
Remember, legal documents should be prepared by an attorney. Please use our legal name, the John Avery Boys & Girls Club, Inc. when planning a gift to us. A request for information is not considered an obligation to the John Avery Boys & Girls Club. All communication will be held in strict confidence

Other Forms of Planned Giving
There are many other ways to make a planned gift. These include:
Securities
Due to tax considerations, donors can often give more at no greater cost to themselves, by giving securities (stocks, bonds, etc.). Mutual fund shares can also be given with the same beneficial effect.
Bank Account or Certificate of Deposit
When you open a bank account or set up a CD, you can name the John Avery Boys & Girls Club as a beneficiary. Your banking institution can provide a beneficiary designation form.
Life Insurance
You may name the John Avery Boys & Girls Club as the direct beneficiary of all or part of your life insurance policy, or as a co-beneficiary or contingent beneficiary. You may also donate your paid-up life insurance policy to the John Avery Boys & Girls Club, or name us as a beneficiary of an annuity.
Real Estate
You may make a gift of real estate to the John Avery Boys & Girls Club. The property is assessed at its full market value at the time it is given to the charity, and tax deductions are calculated based on property and interest value formulas.
Retirement Plans
You may designate the John Avery Boys & Girls Club as the final beneficiary of a company pension or profit-sharing plan of a private fund (for example, an IRA or Keough), saving your estate both income and estate taxes.
Life Income Funds
It may be possible to plan a substantial gift to take effect later while receiving periodic payments of income from the assets that will eventually come to the Club. Charitable remainder trusts and pooled income funds are examples of these planned gifts.
These types of gifts can be made during your lifetime or planned for in your will. Due to the complexity of these giving mechanisms, we recommend consulting an attorney or qualified estate planner to determine the approach that best meets your needs and intent. Call John Mitterling, our Director of Development, at (919) 687-4517 to talk about making such a gift.
